Former U.S. President Donald Trump was hurriedly escorted off the stage by Secret Service agents during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania after suspected gunfire was heard. According to ABC News, Trump was delivering a speech at an outdoor podium on Saturday around 6 PM local time (6 AM Singapore time on Sunday, July 14) when a loud bang was heard, followed by a commotion.
There was visible blood on Trump’s right ear. Secret Service personnel quickly surrounded him and he was swiftly taken off the stage with a fist raised. He had blood on his right ear, which might have been caused when he was pushed down by agents in their attempt to protect him.
The Secret Service is currently assessing the incident and has not yet confirmed whether it was an actual shooting. Following the incident, the White House issued a statement saying President Biden had received a preliminary briefing on the event.
Elon Musk, the founder of electric vehicle giant Tesla, posted on X in support of Trump: “I fully support Trump and hope for his speedy recovery.” A spokesperson for Trump’s campaign team stated that Trump was safe and undergoing examination at a local medical facility, expressing gratitude towards law enforcement and emergency personnel for their rapid response to the distressing situation.
Reuters reported that the venue was shut down, with chairs knocked over and yellow caution tape surrounding the podium. Video footage showed a helicopter flying over the venue while law enforcement was active on the ground.
